Quick braces FAQ
So, you’ve made the decision to have adult braces and to start your teeth straightening in Loughborough. What’s next? Well, booking in for a consultation with us is absolutely essential and can help determine whether you’re suitable for treatment. And, you’ll no doubt have a lot of different questions to ask about your treatment and about your adult braces in general. Without further ado, let’s begin!
Which adult braces do you offer?
We offer Invisalign braces, Incognito lingual braces, Clarity clear ceramic braces and fixed metal braces. However, for this post, we’ll be focusing on our Invisalign braces. They’re one of our most popular adult brace types as they’re invisible, comfortable and removable.
What are Invisalign braces recommended for?
Invisalign is recommended for crookedness, crowding, gaps and bite problems. Although they’re best known for being adult braces, they can also treat teens and some children. Some people also like to use them for minor adjustments to their smile.
Is anyone unsuitable for treatment?
There are some exceptions. If you have gum disease, Invisalign isn’t recommended. And if you have extensive dental work, it may not be an effective treatment. Finally, if you have any oral concerns which need addressing, you may need to attend to them before you start your adult brace treatment. This is the reason we check you’re dentally fit before starting you with Invisalign.
How many aligners do I need?
It varies from case to case, but our expert orthodontists will put a full treatment plan together for you and can even show you how your teeth will move throughout treatment, as well as your predicted results. You may need check-ups during your treatment, but it’s best to discuss this with your orthodontist.
How do I care for my smile?
Because Invisalign braces are removable, you can take them out when brushing and flossing. You will also need to rinse and brush your aligners and soak them in Invisalign’s solution. We also recommend brushing and flossing your teeth after eating, before popping your aligners back in.
Where do I store my removable braces?
You can opt to have a special case from Invisalign to store the aligners in. This is ideal for those wanting to take a break from wearing them, or who need somewhere to put them while eating or cleaning their teeth.
Can I damage my aligners?
Yes. Staining can occur if you drink anything other than water while wearing them, and even chewing gum could cause cracks or weakness in the aligners. They can also snap or break if dropped/stood on etc. That’s why it’s so important to use the case if you remove them.
What if I don’t like my results?
Sometimes, a refinement period is needed at the end of your Invisalign treatment, where you will need a few more sets of aligners to really get those tweaks perfected. It is very unusual for a patient to be unhappy with their results–after all, you are shown the predicted outcome at the very start of treatment.
