Single Implants

THE GOLD STANDARD OF DENTAL RESTORATIONS

A missing tooth is not just a cosmetic issue; it also impacts on oral health. Your jawbone’s strength is dependent on its interaction with your teeth, and where a tooth is missing, that section of jaw can lose bone density and volume, weakening the shape and structure of the jaw. At Loughborough Orthodontal and Implant Centre, we protect your jaw by offering dental implants for incisors and molars.

Implants are the gold standard of dental restorations, as they are fixed straight into the jawbone, which ossifies around the newly fitted tooth, strengthening the bond. If looked after properly, dental implants can last for decades.

The benefits

Though other dental restorations might look almost as natural as an implant, and restore function to a large degree, a dental implant has several unique benefits, including:

  • Lasts for decades
  • Avoids damaging surrounding teeth
  • Maintains the health and strength of your jaw
  • Replicates the cosmetic appearance of a natural tooth
  • Forms a bond with your jaw as strong as your natural teeth

Your Journey

1. Consultation

Consultation is our chance to get to know you, understand your dental concerns, assess your teeth, and agree on a personal treatment plan. Taking your medical history into account, we will agree on the best way to achieve your goals.

2. Treatment

This is where we bring all our skill and experience to bear. From bridges to braces to implants, your expert clinician will deliver the treatments agreed during your consultation, making sure you are comfortable and at ease.

3. Aftercare

Though some treatments are walk-in, walk-out processes, other dental procedures require downtime and carefully considered aftercare. We will advise you of activities, substances, and medications to avoid, while ensuring you know the best way to look after your treated teeth.

FAQS

Made from a titanium screw, dental implants are extremely durable and fuse directly with your jawbone, making them the longest lasting and strongest dental restoration available. Much like natural teeth, well-looked-after implants can last for decades.

Dental bridges are an effective restoration solution and are more affordable than implants, but a dental implant has several advantages that a bridge can’t match:

  • They are far more durable
  • They fuse directly with the jaw
  • They support the bone health of your mouth
  • Unlike a dental bridge, an implant won’t cause damage to the surrounding teeth

The surgical procedure is minor and is carried out using local anaesthetic. Any post-surgical discomfort can be easily managed with over-the-counter pain relief.

If you are generally healthy and you have sufficient jawbone to support an implant, you are highly likely to be suitable. Our expert clinician will examine your mouth and jaw, consult your medical history, and take X-rays to ensure a dental implant would be right for you.

The tissue surrounding your implant will be very tender after surgery. To protect it during the healing process you will need to eat a carefully planned diet, which will initially consist of soft, protein-rich foods such as smoothies, soups, and yoghurts. We will give you specific aftercare instructions during your consultation. Once the healing process is complete, an implant’s strength will enable you to revert to your usual diet, although it might be best to avoid extremely sticky or tough food in the long term to protect not only your implant but your remaining healthy teeth as well.
